Honoring Those Who Have Served Our Nation
The citizens of Vineland recognize and deeply appreciate the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in our nation’s armed forces. From World War I through today’s ongoing efforts in the War on Terrorism, Vineland residents have consistently answered the call to serve their country and protect the freedoms we cherish. Some have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
The beautiful monuments at Landis Park stand as a lasting tribute to the courage, dedication, and patriotism of those who have served.
The City of Vineland is proud to continue honoring our local heroes through the Hometown Heroes Banner Project. This program provides families with an opportunity to recognize and celebrate a loved one’s military service by displaying a personalized banner along Landis Avenue.
Through this project, we hope to ensure that residents and visitors alike recognize the contributions and sacrifices of the men and women who have defended our nation.
Program Details and Cost
The City of Vineland will proudly display personalized military banners, measuring 30”wide x 48”long, featuring photographs of eligible service members on light poles along Landis Avenue.
The cost of the banner and approved mounting hardware is $172.50 plus applicable sales tax. All costs are the responsibility of the applicant.

The City of Vineland does not collect payments or assume financial responsibility for banner production, mounting hardware, or banner maintenance.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Hometown Heroes Banner Project, the service member and applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Proof of military service: The applicant must provide documentation verifying the service member’s military service.
- Eligible military branch: The service member must have served in one of the five military branches recognized for this program: the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Space Force.
- Connection to Vineland: The service member must be, or have been a resident of Vineland at the time of military service, or must have resided in Vineland following military service.
- Photograph requirements: The applicant must supply a photograph of the service member alone and in military uniform. Dress uniform is preferred.
- Discharge status: The service member must have received an Honorable Discharge or its equivalent.
- Required documentation: Military service and discharge status must be verified through a DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) or DD Form 215 (Correction to DD Form 214).
For purposes of this program, the definition of a veteran is based on Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations, which describes a veteran as a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. Applicants must also meet the specific eligibility requirements established for this project.
All banners and supporting documentation are subject to review and approval by the Vineland United Veterans Council.
Banner Production and Installation
Once the banner and supporting documentation have been approved, the applicant is responsible for arranging and paying for the banner and approved mounting hardware through Sir Speedy of Vineland.
After printing is completed, Sir Speedy will contact representatives of the Vineland United Veterans Council, who will arrange for delivery of the banner to Vineland City Hall.
The City of Vineland will coordinate installation and assign personnel to mount the banners on light poles along Landis Avenue.
Please note the following:
- Banner locations are assigned by the City of Vineland on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Applicants may not reserve or select a specific light pole location.
- Installation schedules are subject to weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances, which may cause delays.
- The City of Vineland is not responsible for the cost of producing or maintaining the banners.
Banner Warranty, Replacement, and Location Renewal Policy
- Banner Warranty: Sir Speedy will provide a one-year warranty on each banner, beginning on the date the banner is installed and displayed. After the one-year warranty period expires, the sponsor will be responsible for the cost of replacing the banner if they wish to continue displaying it.
- Sponsor Notification: Sponsors will be notified of banner replacement or renewal requirements by phone or email only. It is the sponsor’s responsibility to ensure that their contact information remains current.
- Banner Replacement and Location Renewal: Upon notification, the sponsor will have 60 days from the date of notification to confirm their intention to continue sponsoring the banner and retain the existing display location.
- If the sponsor does not take action within the 60-day period, the City of Vineland reserves the right to make the light pole location available for another Hometown Heroes banner.
- Sponsors are encouraged to respond promptly to all notifications to ensure continued recognition of their hometown hero and retention of the existing display location.
