SNOW PLOWING AND REMOVAL

The City of Vineland has over 259 miles of roadway, which are plowed by the Department of Public Works with assistance from other city departments and local contractors for our industrial park.  Before each storm, the city begins preparing and planning for snow removal by following a protocol that prioritizes the safety of residents by clearing pathways for emergency vehicles first, and general road accessibility.   All city and contractor plow trucks are equipped with a GPS tracking system to monitor not only where the plows trucks are located, but also to determine the plowing  history and frequency of every street in the city.

  • Keeping the city right-or-way clear of ice and snow on Landis Avenue.

Street sweeping

The City of Vineland Street Sweeping program is an important part of our environmental protection efforts.  It is an effective means of keeping city roadways clean and preventing pollutants from reaching waterways. By removing debris and contaminants like oil and sediment, we can help to ensure our stormwater systems are not overwhelmed with pollutants, improve water quality, and reduce flooding risks.  In addition, with 7,682 tons of debris collected annually, it has a substantial impact on keeping the city litter free.

  • Keeping the city right-of-way free from dirt and debris on Landis Ave.

Storm water maintenance

Protecting the City of Vineland and its waterways is one of our top priorities. Completing necessary storm drain cleaning work on city property helps us to accomplish this goal by reducing sediment traveling to city waterways. Approximately 6,300 road inlets are inspected and cleaned each year on a rotating basis with special attention given before and after rainfall events to ensure proper drainage. The inlets are cleaned with the help of a Vactor (vacuum) truck which use high-pressure water jets and a powerful vacuum to remove debris and liquids from underground pipes, road inlets, and basin structures.

  • Periodic cleaning of storm water inlets throughout the city.
  • Maintaining the function and integrity of storm water inlets throughout the city.
  • Maintaining proper outflow of water throughout the city.

Road maintenance

Road maintenance is crucial to ensure the longevity and safety of road infrastructure. Regular repairs and resurfacing prevent road deterioration, reduce accidents, and minimize disruptions to traffic flow. Proper drainage systems are essential as well, as they help prevent flooding, road erosion, and long-term damage caused by water. It also helps in reducing environmental impacts by managing runoff and keeping roads in good condition, which reduces the need for extensive repairs in the future.

  • Pot hole repairs on all city roadways.
  • Small overlays to maintain city roadways.
  • Maintenance of Municipal Utility cut outs.
  • Placement and repair of traffic signs on city roadways.
