DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to help commemorate the Discovery of Puerto Rico in 1493\, and the contributions of Vineland’s Puerto Rican community which has been integral part of the city’s cultural\, economic\, and civic life for generations.  The celebration will be co-hosted by Nadia Albizu\, Founder & CEO\, and Dr. Wanda Albizu\, Educational Director\, of the nonprofit organization Dream Builders of NJ. There will be presentations about Puerto Rican history and culture\, fun activities for all ages\, opportunities to share and learn more about the island’s vibrant traditions\, and entertainment by Juan Ramos\, El Trio Los Originales\, Aileen Seda\, Raices Boricua\, Luis Figueroa\, along with young artist Elijah Robles Lopez who will be painting during the event. \nAttendees are also invited\, if able\, to help our neighbors in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa with donations of over-the-counter medicines or canned food. All contributions will go directly to relief efforts for those impacted by the hurricane. SUMMARY:Olde Fashioned Christmas on the Ave
DESCRIPTION:Festivities will kick off with the lighting of the Vineland Community Christmas Tree on the steps of City Hall at 5:00 pm on December 5.  Jim Donovan from CBS 3 in Philadelphia will again be our  MC for the Tree Lighting\, and local favorite Alexandra Brodzik will perform the National Anthem.  An exciting addition to the Tree Lighting this year is the Jersey Mummers String Band who will play holiday favorites and Mummers favorites and then march to the Vineland Convention Center to perform.   Other activities include free trolley and carriage rides\, costumed characters\, numerous vendors\, photos with Santa\, and special guests Vineland Fire Department Dog “Radiant\,” EMT Dog “Wednesday\,” and Vineland Schools Dog “Cole.”  Additional entertainment will be provided by the Sweet Adelines\, Divine Mercy Choir\, Studio B Dancers\, DJ-Bob Morgan\, and Singer Louis Junta and more.
