The City of Vineland Legal Department is responsible for all of the legal affairs of the city. The Department includes a full-time attorney, and three associate attorneys.
The Department provides legal advice to the Mayor, City Council, Business Administrator, City Clerk, and all City Departments, as well as, various boards, committees, and commissions ensuring legally sound decisions in developing and carrying out city policies.
The Department prepares ordinances, resolutions, and related documents for City Council, and draws up deeds, leases, contracts, or other documents required to conduct city business and enforce city policy.
Attorneys for the Legal Department appear for, and protect the rights and interests of, the city in actions, suits, and proceedings brought by or against it, or any city officer, board, or department acting in their official capacities.
The Legal Department includes two divisions, the Municipal Court and the Office of the Municipal Prosecutor.
