TRAFFIC
UNIT
The
Traffic Division is comprised of one Sergeant and three Police Officers.
Three of the officers are certified traffic accident reconstructionists.
The division uses the three E's of any effective traffic safety
program:
- Education
- Engineering
- Enforcement.
Education
is done through instruction of driver's education classes in defensive
driving. Classes have been taught to the general public as well
by members of the division. Our officers also instruct the basic
police recruits at the Vineland Police Academy in motor vehicle
law and basic accident investigation.
Engineering consists of continuing planning and strategy
meetings with state, county and local government officials, as well
as construction officials about ongoing traffic projects. In addition,
the division conducts traffic surveys periodically at the request
of these agencies.
Enforcement is accomplished by aggressive enforcement of
traffic laws, especially DWI (Driving While under the Influence).
The Vineland Police Department actively participates in several
proactive state grant programs including aggressive driving, "Click
It or Ticket", and "Over
the Limit, Under Arrest".
We continue to purchase state of the art equipment, including radar
units and in conjunction with the department's Mobile Data Computers,
the productivity of our patrol and traffic divisions has greatly
increased. We are constantly looking at new equipment, especially
the new LASER radar technology, and equipment to more accurately
measure and diagram major accidents..
The Vineland Police Department is a member of the New
Jersey State Traffic Officers Association.
