BIKE UNIT

The Vineland Police Bicycle Patrol Unit was introduced in 1999 with three officers, but has since grown to a five man unit. Funding was recently secured to upgrade to Avalanche XCR mountain bikes specially equipped for police work. The unit is part of Community Policing in the Patrol Division.

The use of bicycles enhances the mobility of officers and adds a silent tactical approach to patrol. In addition to law enforcement advantages, the bicycle officers will seek to develop community relations and encourage interaction with the public, specifically along the business district of Landis Avenue.

The bicycle officers will participate in all facets of police work. With the element of surprise, this unit will have an impact on quality of life issues as well as proactive enforcement endeavors.
