VINELAND--The state's only municipal-run electric generating utility is planning for the future and looking to save Cumberland County customers millions of dollars.
On Election Day, the Vineland Municipal Electric Utility will ask voters to approve a bond ordinance to build a new $60 million generator that would run on gas and fuel.
If approved, the unit would save $8 million annually, stabilize customer bills and ensure a future in the city's electric utility, "In essence, we would use same money we're paying for our capacity shortage and would invest in this unit and would save that money plus six million," said the director, Joe Isabella.
A public hearing on the proposed plan will be held on October 23 at 7 p.m. in City Hall council chambers.
